At the meeting of the Council of the European Mathematical Society to be held in Bled in Summer 2022 there will be elections to the following positions in the Executive Committee (EC):

• President
• One Vice President
• Treasurer
• A possible election of Members-at-Large may follow, if the above positions are filled with candidates from the current EC.

News from the Georgian Mathematical Union: The Tbilisi Mathematical Journal has recently been relaunched with a new name, Advanced Studies: Euro-Tbilisi Mathematical Journal (ASETMJ). The journal has begun a serious effort to raise the standards of its papers, broaden its coverage, and increase its reputation in order to make it more attractive to authors and subscribers alike as a wide-ranging resource for investigators around the world. The relaunch includes a newly designed website (link). The journal is the official journal of the Tblisi Center for Mathematical Sciences.

The European Kovalevskaya Travel Grants support graduate students, postdocs and other early career mathematicians who would like to attend the International Congress of Mathematicians ICM 2022, to be held 6-14 July 2022 in St. Petersburg, Russia. The Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences (RIMS), Kyoto University Japan, has a call for proposals for workshops and symposia in 2022. The application deadline is 30 November. More information here.

The EMS Meetings Committee calls for proposals for mathematical events, and the EMS Committee for European Solidarity calls for proposals for travel grants for young mathematicians. The deadline for both calls is 30 September.

Welcome to the 40th edition of the European Mathematical Society Digest (formerly "e-news").

The next deadline for applications to the EMS-Simons for Africa programme is approaching on 15th September. The aim of this programme is to promote individual career possibilities with consequence of an improved global capacity in African academic institutions. The programme is open to all areas of pure and applied mathematics and statistics and it is directed to fellows based in Africa. Click here for more information.

The aim of the Ostrowski Foundation is to promote the mathematical sciences. Every second year it provides a prize for recent outstanding achievements in pure mathematics and in the foundations of numerical mathematics. The value of the prize for 2021 is 100.000 Swiss francs.

The EMS Office is currently closed for the summer holidays, and will reopen on 23 August 2021.

The EMS warmly congratulates Anna Kiesenhofer, an Austrian postdoctoral mathematician at University of Lausanne (Switzerland), who earlier this week won the cycling road race at the Olympic Games!
