Jiří Rákosník

The Women in Mathematics Committee (WiM) of the European Mathematical Society is proud to announce the EMS Women in Mathematics Day 2026. This special event is organized as part of the "May 12th" initiative, a worldwide celebration of women in mathematics in memory of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman to receive the Fields Medal.

About the Talks

Kaisa Matomäki (University of Turku)

Primes, almost primes, and the Liouville function in short intervals

Abstract: I will first introduce some fundamental concepts in analytic number theory such as primes and the Liouville function as well as briefly discuss classical results concerning them and their local distribution. Then I will move on to discussing more recent progress on the topic.

Annalisa Buffa (EPF Lausanne)

On the impact of geometric simplification on the solutions of PDEs

Abstract: Geometric simplification is standard in geometric design and is often called defeaturing. We analyze the impact of geometric simplification on the solutions of PDEs and provide a framework allowing us to measure and control the error generated by such simplifications. This is joint work with Philipp Weder.
