EMS Committee for Developing Countries: Call for ERCE Recognition 2025-2028

The Committee for Developing Countries (CDC) invites applications for the Emerging Regional Centres of Excellence (ERCE). This prestigious 4-years label recognizes mathematics centers in the Global South that demonstrate excellence in research and play a vital role in regional education, particularly in training students from neighboring areas.

The ERCE label recognizes mathematics centers in the Global South that demonstrate excellence in research and play a vital role in regional education, particularly in training students from neighboring areas. Current ERCE centers form a vibrant network across Asia and Africa: AUST (Nigeria), ZLAM (Senegal), IMSP (Benin), UCA (Morocco), ITB (Indonesia), INSPEM (Malaysia), LUMS (Pakistan) and UrSU (Uzbekistan).

To be considered for ERCE recognition, centers must demonstrate:

  • Strong scientific standing and regional collaboration
  • Excellence in research and teaching
  • International outlook and sustainable long-term prospects
  • Commitment to educating graduate students from neighboring regions
  • Masters and (ideally) PhD program offerings
  • Openness to international collaboration and visiting mathematicians

The recognition is awarded for four years and is renewable. Interested institutions can apply through the EMS grants portal by February 15th, 2025.

  2. Select Emerging Regional Centre of Excellence (ERCE) Label 2025-2028 under Apply
  3. Complete and submit your application
