The Society 2019-2022
The period was heavily dominated by the pandemic and the invasion of the Ukraine by Russia. Most meetings of committees had to be held via video-conference and the ECM in Portoroz had to be held as a hybrid meeting. The circumstances (including the necessity to redo the internet presentation after a hacker attack) slowed down the activities and the progress in the society substantially. Despite all this, the transformation of the publishing house into the EMS Press based in Berlin was completed and the journals are now published under the subscribe-to-open model. It was decided to create the EMS young academy which started its operation in 2023. The new topical activity groups were introduced and also started in 2023.
