Strategic Partnership with Royal Academy of Sciences

On May 9, 2025, SeMA formalized a landmark collaboration agreement with the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences (RAC). The signing ceremony at RAC headquarters brought together key leaders including Ana María Crespo de las Casas, President of RAC, and Ángel Manuel Ramos del Olmo, President of SeMA. This partnership immediately bore fruit with a joint meeting featuring Repsol Technology Lab representatives, who presented collaborative research opportunities in simulation technology, quantum applications, and optimization.

The agreement represents a strategic alliance between Spain's premier mathematical societies, opening new avenues for research collaboration and industrial partnerships.

Recognition of Mathematical Excellence

SeMA's commitment to recognizing outstanding contributions was demonstrated through several prestigious awards:

Civic Leadership in Science: Peregrina Quintela Estévez, Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Santiago de Compostela, received the IX Julio Peláez Award for Women Scientists with Civic Leadership in April 2025. This recognition highlights the intersection of scientific excellence and social responsibility within the mathematical community.

Editorial Excellence: The SeMA Journal Award for 2024 was presented to Professor David Gómez Castro of the Autonomous University of Madrid for his comprehensive review "Beginners' guide to aggregation-diffusion equations." This work serves as an essential introduction to aggregation-diffusion equations, covering everything from historical context to modern numerical methods. The €1,500 prize recognizes the article's contribution to making complex mathematical concepts accessible to the broader scientific community.

These achievements reflect SeMA's dual commitment to advancing mathematical research and fostering meaningful connections between academia and society.
