Jorge Buescu is currently Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon. His commitment to science communication is demonstrated through over 200 pedagogical and outreach articles. He has been collaborating with the European Mathematical Society since 2008 and has served as Vice-President alongside Beatrice Pelloni since 2021. At national level, he served the Portuguese Mathematical Society (SPM) as Vice-President and later as President.

Buescu has been writing about science for over three decades in Ingenium, the Engineers Association magazine, where he maintains a regular column. His contributions to science communication have earned him several prestigious recognitions, including the Rómulo de Carvalho Research and Outreach Award. He was also named Corresponding Member of the Order of Engineers and elected honorary member of the Royal Spanish Mathematical Society.

«I've always felt the need to share science. By communicating and showing others the beauty that exists in what we scientists do, which is often not visible from the outside,» says Buescu. «Communicating and disseminating Science rigorously is an increasingly important task. Science communication inspires new generations, awakening curiosity and showing the relevance of Science. Beyond that, it promotes the growth of a healthier society, as well-informed citizens are better able to demand actions that promote social and environmental well-being.»

We extend our warmest congratulations to Jorge for this well-deserved recognition!
