Call open for new EMS Topical Activity Groups
Applications are open for the formation of new EMS Topical Activity Groups (EMS-TAGs) starting in 2027. Deadline: 31 October 2026.
EMS-TAGs are intended to address fragmentation within the European mathematical community and to foster scientific cooperation across Europe and across mathematical fields. The programme was established following a decision of the EMS Council in 2022.
There are currently 10 active EMS-TAGs, working in areas including inverse problems, mathematical modelling in the life sciences, scientific machine learning, nonlinear PDEs, semigroups, post-quantum group-based cryptography and other fields. Prospective applicants are encouraged to check the existing TAGs before applying in order to avoid duplication.
Once established, EMS-TAGs can also apply for financial support for meetings and workshops through the EMS Meetings Committee. Installed TAGs are furthermore eligible to submit proposals to the EMS Strategic Activities programme, which supports larger-scale, inclusive and cross-institutional activities.
A group of at least 7 EMS members may apply to form a new EMS-TAG. Applications should outline the research area of the proposed group, its planned activities, membership and management, dissemination, contribution to integration within the European mathematical community, and approach to inclusivity and diversity. Applicants are also asked to provide information about recent activity in the field.
Deadline: 31 October 2026
Applications should be submitted through EMS Good Grants. Applications may be edited after submission until the deadline.
