Established by the European Mathematical Society, École Polytechnique, the Foundation of École Polytechnique, and the Paul Lévy family, with financial support from BNP Paribas, the Prize honors the memory of Paul Lévy, a renowned French mathematician who was a professor at École Polytechnique for nearly 40 years (1920-1959).

The 2026 Selection Committee, chaired by Martin Hairer, will consider nominations submitted to the EMS Office (ems-office@helsinki.fi) by the deadline of August 31st, 2025. Nominations should include:

  • the candidate's name and affiliation;
  • a description of their qualifying work with important references;
  • a 100-word citation that can be read at the award ceremony. All nominations remain confidential and should not be disclosed to candidates.

The award includes a commemorative medal, a certificate, and a cash prize of €20,000. It will be presented at the Bernoulli Society's 45th Conference on Stochastic Processes and their Applications in Ithaca, USA, June 15-19, 2026, where recipients will be invited to present their work.

The inaugural Paul Lévy Prize was awarded to Jeremy Quastel at the 9th European Congress of Mathematicians in 2024.
