The European Mathematical Society is pleased to announce that the 2026 Simon Norton Prize has been awarded to the Museum of Mathematics “CUBOID” in Ukraine.

The EMS Simon Norton Prize for Mathematics Outreach recognises individuals, teams, or partnerships whose work in mathematics engagement has had an outstanding and demonstrable impact on its audience.

The selection panel praised “CUBOID” for its wide-ranging mathematics outreach activities, including hands-on experiences, teacher professional development, publications, exhibitions, and digital learning resources. The panel also highlighted the remarkable fact that these activities were developed and adapted under wartime conditions, when support for learners and educators was especially important.

In its first year, “CUBOID” reached more than 43,000 visitors, including approximately 550 organised school groups from across Ukraine. More than 4,000 educators participated in professional development activities connected to the project, which focuses on inquiry-based learning, puzzles, modelling, and classroom adaptation of museum exhibits.

The EMS warmly congratulates the Museum of Mathematics “CUBOID”, as well as the five honourable mentions recognised by the panel.

The award ceremony will take place on Monday, 20 July, during the MATRIX × IMAGINARY 2026 conference in New York City.
