2026 AMS–EMS Mikhail Gordin Prize awarded to Simion Filip and Vadim Gorin
Simion Filip and Vadim Gorin to receive the 2026 AMS–EMS Mikhail Gordin Prize that recognises outstanding contributions in probability or dynamical systems, with preference given to early-career mathematicians from or professionally connected to an Eastern European country.

The European Mathematical Society (EMS) and the American Mathematical Society (AMS) are pleased to announce that the 2026 AMS–EMS Mikhail Gordin Prize will be awarded to Simion Filip (University of Chicago) and Vadim Gorin (University of California, Berkeley).
Simion Filip is recognised for his work, which provided completely unexpected solutions to several major conjectures in Teichmüller, complex and smooth dynamics.
Vadim Gorin is honoured for his elegant use of algebraic techniques to prove universality results for scaling limits of probabilistic and statistical physics models.
The AMS announcement provides detailed citations of the laureates’ work and includes their personal reflections on receiving the prize.
The prize, established in 2018, is awarded every four years to recognise outstanding contributions in probability or dynamical systems, with preference given to early-career mathematicians from or professionally connected to an Eastern European country.
The award consists of a USD 4,000 prize and up to USD 1,000 in travel support, and the selection is made by a joint committee with representatives from both societies.
