2025 Fermat Prize awarded to Vesselin Dimitrov and Vlad Vicol
Vesselin Dimitrov and Vlad Vicol receive the 2025 Fermat Prize for breakthroughs in number theory, Diophantine geometry, and the analysis of fluid mechanics and turbulence.

The 2025 Fermat Prize has been awarded to Professor Vesselin Dimitrov (Caltech) and Professor Vlad Vicol (Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University).
Dimitrov is recognised “for major advances in number theory, Diophantine geometry and the theory of modular forms”, while Vicol is honoured “for deep and transformative breakthroughs in the mathematical analysis of equations of fluid mechanics and turbulence”.
The Fermat Prize, awarded every two years in Toulouse by the Toulouse Institute of Mathematics under the aegis of the University of Toulouse, recognises research at the highest international level in areas where Pierre de Fermat’s work has been decisive, including number theory, partial differential equations, and probability.
The European Mathematical Society regularly provides experts to the Fermat Prize jury; for the 2025 edition, EMS was represented by Sylvia Serfaty.
