Simons Postdoc in Mathematics / Mathematical Physics
Kyiv School of Economics | Kyiv, Ukraine
Classification:
Early career researchers in mathematics or mathematical physics are invited to apply for full-time postdoctoral positions at KSE. To apply, candidates should hold a PhD in mathematics or a closely related field. The newly hired postdoctoral researchers will play a leading role in building a thriving research environment in mathematical sciences at KSE and fostering collaborations within the global research community. The duties of a postdoc at KSE include conducting research, mentoring undergraduates, and teaching. The languages of instruction are English and Ukrainian. No knowledge of Ukrainian is required from candidates. We expect postdoctoral researchers to engage in one teaching activity per term, which could include lecturing small groups, providing teaching assistance, or running a graduate student seminar. The positions will start on August 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. We expect to fill three postdoctoral positions in this first round of hiring. The opening of new positions is linked to the launch of new international undergraduate and graduate programs in mathematical sciences at KSE in the Fall of 2025. A preliminary description of the undergraduate programs in mathematical sciences at KSE can be found here: https://kse.ua/planned-undergraduate-programs-in-mathematics-at-KSE.pdf The offering of graduate courses will depend on the research interests of researchers hired through this and other job advertisements. Hours: Full time Contract type: Fixed-term contract for up to three years. Three positions starting on August 1, 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. Location: KSE Campus, 3 Mykoly Shpaka Street, Kyiv, Ukraine Funding partner: This post is supported by the Simons Foundation. Detailed job description, selection criteria and instructions for applicants: https://kse.ua/postdoctoral-positions-in-mathematics-at-KSE.pdf Safety and flexibility: Ukraine has been resisting the full-scale military invasion by the Russian Federation since the beginning of 2022. Kyiv is far from the front line, and the effects of the war in the city are primarily seen through air raids and power outages. Despite this, Kyiv is functioning fully, including medical services and the education system. In light of the uncertainties caused by the war, KSE welcomes candidates who are ready to join for shorter periods, starting from one teaching term, as well as those who would like to maintain their affiliation with a foreign university while working at KSE. This information can be included in the cover letter submitted by candidates.
