Appointment requirements are governed by Section 102a of the Berlin Higher Education Act (Berliner Hochschulgesetz, BerlHG). Successful candidates should demonstrate an outstanding record of university teaching and re-search in discrete geometry, with a strong international component. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is especially interested in candidates with experience using methods and applications in one or more of the following fields: topological combinatorics, geometrical topology, computational geometry, discrete mathematics, algebraic geometry, and/or differential geometry. They should have experience with projects financed through third-party funding. Please note that the successful candidate will be expected to teach in English. Along with the regular official duties of professors listed in Article 99 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, we expect the appointee to engage in the following activities: The appointee will assume teaching duties as part of the working group “Discrete Geometry” within the Institute of Mathematics and will participate in the graduate lecture series “Discrete Geometry I-III” offered annually in English at the Berlin Mathematical School. They are also expected to contribute to other existing and projected mathematical projects in Berlin with third-party funding. The appointee will also teach courses in a way that reflects sensitivity to gender and diversity issues. The position entails a three-year appointment as a civil servant for a fixed period (“Beamter/Beamtin auf Zeit”). Following a successful midterm review (“Zwischenevaluation”), the position can be ex-tended for another three years.
