As part of the expansion of its focus on bioinformatics, the Faculty of Technology is calling for applications for the position of Professorship (W2 or W3) for Modelling in the Life Sciences to commence at the earliest opportunity. You are internationally recognized with excellent qualifications at the interface of life sciences with computer science and/or mathematics in research and teaching. You are able to cooperate with the research groups of the Faculty of Technology, especially with the research groups in related fields. As a professor, you represent the field of modelling in the life sciences in research and teaching. The focus is on the study and development of computational/statistical/mathematical models of current interest in the life sciences. In particular, you are familiar with topics that are relevant in areas such as simulation-based modelling, the creation of models for the purpose of data analysis in biomedical contexts, or statistical / computational models in population genetics, among others. Possible thematic research areas of the professorship include the following: • Models that support computer-based simulations • Statistical/algorithmic models that serve the analysis of data of current interest in the life sciences • Models of actual relevance in population genetic/genomics or evolutionary models. You will actively use the many opportunities for interdisciplinary research cooperation available within Bielefeld University. The faculty is currently participating in several central academic institutions such as the Research Centre for Mathematical Modelling (RCM2 ) , the Center for Biotechnology (CeBiTec), or the Bielefeld Institute for Bioinformatics Infrastructure (BIBI). In addition, the faculty is actively involved in the establishment of other foci and institutes, with potential for further collaborations and application areas of current interest. Participation in the bachelor and master programs of the faculty, in particular in the area of statistical/computational/mathematical modelling, is also expected.
