About us: The Department of Mathematics at LMU hosts working groups in algebraic geometry (Morel, Bley, Geldhauser, Land, Rosenschon) as well as geometry and topology (Kotschick, Vogel, Leeb, Hensel), carrying out research in (motivic) homotopy theory, number theory, algebraic cycles, geometric group theory and low-dimensional topology as well as complex and symplectic geometry. Your tasks and responsibilities: You will join the Department of Mathematics at LMU (downtown Munich) in a two-year postdoctoral position where you will work in the DFG (German Research Council) funded project Symmetries in Topology and Algebra (Project Number 527329998) of Prof. Markus Land. The topic of this project surrounds the cohomology of mapping class and symplectic/orthogonal groups and their relation and applications to geometric topology. Your qualifications: You have a PhD (or equivalent) degree in Mathematics or will obtain such a degree before October 1, 2024. You have a strong background and interest in homotopy theory and geometric topology. You have a working proficiency in English or German (German skills are not required). You have a desire and talent to work in a collaborative manner in mathematical research. Benefits: We offer: A position for the duration of two years, starting no later than October 1, 2024.
