Postdoc Position ("akademischer Rat") at Chair of Mathematics of Information Processing, LMU Munich We are looking for qualified candidates for a postdoctoral position in the general area of mathematical foundations of machine learning and/or of signal processing. The position is limited for 3 years with a possible extension for another 3 years. Employment will be as civil servant ("akademischer Rat", salary scale A13) provided that the legal requirements are met. Teaching tasks: The teaching load is 5 semester hours per week. Applicants should contribute to an appropriate extent in the general teaching, supervision and counselling tasks of the Department of Mathematics. In particular, applicants should assist lectures in the area of mathematics of machine learning and signal and image processing by giving tutorials and helping with the organization. Research Tasks: Candidates are expected to be active in the field of mathematics of information processing (machine learning, signal- and image processing) and have proven expertise in this area. He/she should strengthen existing research activities in this area, particularly in the mathematical foundations of machine learning. Requirements: You should have an outstanding M.Sc. degree in Mathematics (Master) and a completed doctoral degree in Mathematics or a related field. The legal requirements for employment as civil servant ("Beamter") should be fulfilled. Profound expertise in at least one of the following areas is expected: mathematical foundations of machine learning, mathematical foundations of signal and image processing, optimization, probability theory, applied harmonic analysis. We are looking for candidates with very good analytical skills, a very high level of commitment, very good English language skills, the ability to work in a team and an independent way of working.
