Post doctoral scholarship (2 years) within mathematical optimization
Umeå University | Umeå, Sweden
Classification: Mathematical optimization
The Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics is offering a postdoctoral scholarship within the project “Iterative algorithms for regularized optimization on measure spaces”. The scholarship consists of 700 000 SEK for two years, i.e. 350 000 kr per year, tax-free, starting August 1st 2024, or by agreement. Project description: The project concerns a class of algorithms for solving regularized optimization problems on (infinite dimensional) spaces of measures. The algorithms consist in alternately solving discrete approximations of the original problem, and using these solutions to refine the approximations. The aims are to develop new, tailor-made, methods for solving the discretized problems, and to extend the algorithms to situations where knowledge of the optimization problems is uncertain. The project thus contains elements of theory of (convex) optimization, measure spaces, numerical analysis, and probability. The chosen candidate will be given the opportunity to become a part of the group for mathematical foundations for AI at the department for mathematics and mathematical statistics at Umeå university. This young, dynamic and international group is an environment bringing excellent opportunities for the chosen candidate to develop their scientific interests and strengthen their qualifications. Umeå offers excellent working and living conditions. The city is young and located right next to a large river. It is surrounded by forests and lakes and lies close by the sea. In the vicinity there are plenty of opportunities for both indoor and outdoor activities. For further information and instructions on how to apply, see:
