APPLICATIONS 2023/2024 For the 2023/2024 edition of the UC | UP PhD program in Mathematics (PIUDM), there will be 3 application calls. The first will be open between the 16th of January of 2023 and the 21st of April of 2023. The second call will be open between the 27th of June of 2023 and the 14th of July of 2023, while the last call will be open between the 1st of September of 2023 and the 7th of September of 2023. Interested candidates can submit their application for the first call here: https://sigarra.up.pt/fcup/en/CAND_GERAL.CONCURSOS_CAND_ABERTOS_VIEW?pv_curso_id=882 (Remember the dates: January 16 to April 21). REQUIREMENTS Candidates are required to have completed a degree in Mathematics, or in a related field, of one of the following types: • a Master degree (second cycle of higher studies in the European Union Bologna system); • a Bachelor degree (undergraduate degree of 4 or more years in the pre Bologna system); • any degree legally considered equivalent to one of the above. Applications from candidates that expect to satisfy the previous requirement before the fixed starting date of their doctoral studies within the program are welcome. If accepted, the admission will be conditioned to the completion of one of the required degrees. If the academic degree has been awarded by a foreign institution, its recognition/equivalence to a Portuguese degree might be necessary. Exceptionally, candidates whose scientific, academic and professional curriculum demonstrates ability to pursue doctoral studies may also apply. It is up to the Steering Committee to evaluate whether these special conditions are met. For this purpose, instead of the certificates of qualifications, candidates should include a transcript (official listing of courses already completed and the corresponding grades). SCHOLARSHIPS In March/April, the calls for the doctoral scholarships will be launched by the Center for Mathematics of the University of Coimbra (CMUC) and the Center for Mathematics of the University of Porto (CMUP). Considering that the number of scholarships offered by CMUC and CMUP are limited, it is advisable that the selected candidates apply to other types of scholarships, in addition to those of the CMUC and CMUP, such as, the FCT scholarships.
