TU Wien | Wien
Classification: Convex geometry and analysis/Interactions with integral and algebraic geometry
We are seeking to hire a PhD student with a strong background in theoretical mathematics. As the project is multidisciplinary, all specialties are welcome. The successful candidate will take part in the FWF project "Algebraic integral geometry for convex functions" led by Dr. Jacopo Ulivelli (https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/research-radar/10.55776/PAT3787224) and work under their supervision. The project is hosted at the Institute of Convex and Discrete Geometry at TU Wien. The project will focus on: - functional extensions for the theory of smooth valuations on convex bodies - algebraic structures in spaces of convex functions - integral algebraic formulas for invariant valuations on convex functions The candidate is encouraged to open personal lines of research in parallel. Especially if connected with the main project. Candidates should have an MSc in Mathematics, Physics, or Computer Science. A solid preparation in one or more specialties, such as convex geometry, functional analysis, integral geometry, or algebraic geometry, is preferred but is not mandatory. We offer the position for 3 years, starting approximately October 2025. The successful candidate has to obtain their MSc title before then. The monthly gross salary is approx. 2786.10 Euros, 14 salaries per year (according to the collective wage agreement). To apply, send an email to jacopo.ulivelli@tuwien.ac.at with the subject "AIGCF PhD" attaching the following: - CV (mandatory) - list of exams with grades (mandatory) - copy or link to master thesis. An almost final draft is accepted as well (mandatory) - name and contacts of up to two referees (mandatory) - motivation/cover letter (not mandatory, but strongly encouraged) All applicants will be notified about their outcome.
