The Mathematics Institute at the University of Bern, Switzerland, invites applications for a PhD position under the supervision of Professor Thomas Wihler. Candidates are expected to hold a M.Sc. in mathematics, with a solid background in numerical analysis (for PDEs); some computational experience is an advantage. The topic of the PhD work will focus on the development and analysis of computational methods for nonlinear PDE models (with applications in the natural sciences). Besides contributing to the vibrant research environment in the Mathematical Institute, the successful applicant will assist in teaching tutorial classes and exam marking; some minor administrative duties are also included. A professional command of English language is mandatory; some knowledge of German is preferred. An attractive salary is offered in accordance with the regulations of the Swiss National Science Foundation. The starting date of the position is flexible, but no later than August 1, 2023.
