Mathematician (100%)

Allgemeine Anthroposophische Gesellschaft. Goetheanum | Dornach, Switzerland

Classification: Mathematics in Science and Technology

The Section for Mathematics and Astronomy at the Goetheanum invites applications for a research associate, beginning August 1st, 2023, or as per mutual agreement. Mathematician (100 %) for the research project Efficacy of Smallest Entities. Substantive Forces in Space and Counterspace The Section for Mathematics and Astronomy is one of eleven sections of the School of Spiritual Science at the Goetheanum in Dornach (Switzerland). It operates a small observatory, publishes an annual star calendar and, since the founding of the Section in 1923, research at the section has elaborated the concept of space and counterspace, on the basis of projective geometry, and its applications in the natural sciences. Project overview In recent years, research on the effects and efficacy of potentized substances has made significant progress. The now clear empirical evidence for specific effects of homeopathic preparations, in comparison to placebo, contrasts with the lack of understanding, from a scientific point of view, of how such effects can be explained. The task for the present project is to develop mathematical models, using the concept of space and counterspace, which can explain the efficacy of potentized substances. Project description The project, initially planned for 3 years, will be carried out in the Section for Mathematics and Astronomy at the Goetheanum in Dornach (Switzerland) and in collaboration with Prof. Stephan Baumgartner and his team at the Hiscia in Arlesheim (Switzerland). The concept of space and counterspace, on which the research approach is based, is elaborated in works by Rudolf Steiner, Louis Locher-Ernst, George Adams, Peter Gschwind, Nick Thomas, Charles Gunn and Oliver Conradt. In collaboration with Hiscia, the candidate will get a practical introduction to potentization as well as an insight into selected experimental models of basic research on potentized preparations. Candidate requirements - a university degree in mathematics - a doctorate in mathematics - research experience in applied mathematics - knowledge of projective geometry - a willingness to pursue the research approach described above with the concept of space and counterspace - an interest in integrative and anthroposophical medicine - knowledge of anthroposophical spiritual science - very good knowledge of German or English (written and oral) as well as basic knowledge of the other language, English or German. - English language skills for publications and conference presentations - the ability to work independently and in the team Our offer Within the framework of the Mathematical-Astronomical Section at the Goetheanum and in collaboration with Hiscia in Arlesheim, we offer the best conditions for cutting-edge research. Here you will come into contact with fundamental experimental research on potentiated preparations and complement this with theoretical studies using the concept of space and counterspace. In our small team you can quickly take on responsibility and also have room for independent design. The Goetheanum offers generous social benefits as well as access to a wide range of educational and cultural activities. We are looking forward to receiving your application documents including a letter of motivation by June 6th, 2023, stating your earliest starting date and salary expectations.
