Position Description: The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the University of Memphis invites applications for fully funded PhD Positions in Mathematics and Statistics. Positions are available in all areas represented by the department, including Combinatorics and Graph Theory, Applied Mathematics and Differential Equations, Control Theory, Functional Analysis, Ergodic Theory, Low Dimensional Topology, and Applied Statistics. The University of Memphis is a Carnegie R1 ranked public university. Its Department of Mathematical Sciences is renowned for its very high level of research activity and features graduate programs of exceptional breadth and depth. Qualifications: A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematical Sciences or similar is required, with a typical position lasting 5 years, though students with more advanced backgrounds may finish sooner. Having already completed a Master's Degree in Mathematics or Statistics is viewed positively. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively in an English-speaking academic environment, meet student visa requirements (if international), and need to show satisfactory progress towards their degree to maintain the position, including any supplementary support. Salary and Benefits: Positions start mid-August 2025 and come with a monthly stipend, full tuition, and health insurance benefits, with duties involving a mix of tutoring, grading, and some teaching of lower-level classes. Typical stipends will start at 18,000-20,0000 USD for the 9-month academic year, depending on the level of prior academic preparation and prospect of advancement in our program, and may be supplemented by summer teaching or research funding if available. Exceptional Candidates with interests in Combinatorics may qualify for additional stipend support totaling an additional 5,000 USD per year.
