SUMMARY:Algorithmic Advances and Implementation Challenges: Developing Prac
	tical Tools for Phylogenetic Inference
DTSTAMP:20260401T014400Z
DTSTART;VALUE=DATE:20241118
DTEND;VALUE=DATE:20241122
DESCRIPTION:In this workshop\, we will consider challenges and best practic
es in translating theory to software for phylogenetic inference. We will d
iscuss strategies adopted by the tool development community\, their relati
ve advantages\, and lessons learned through software development. We will
discuss a variety of objective functions (parametric and non-parametric) a
nd algorithmic techniques used by inference methods. We will cover paralle
lization and how it interacts with the choice of objective function and al
gorithmic technique. Finally\, we will discuss best practices for evaluati
ng new and existing software tools\, not just to validate the implementati
on but also to study accuracy and scalability in relation to theory and us
age in realistic bioinformatics pipelines. In addition to discussing how t
heory influences tools\, we will examine how tool development can inform t
	he theoretical questions asked.
