DESCRIPTION:ABSTRACT\nIn this lecture I will describe the progress made in
the last 15 years\, in our understanding of the long-time behavior of larg
e solutions to the energy critical focusing nonlinear wave equation. In th
e last part of the lecture\, I will concentrate on progress (with Collot\
, Duyckaerts\, Martel and Merle) on the asymptotic simplification for larg
e time\, into sums of modulated static solutions plus a linear term\, in a
	ll dimensions\, in the radial case.\n\nINVITED SPEAKER\nCarlos Kenig\nUniv
ersity of Chicago\nLouis Block Distinguished Service Professor\n\nCarlos E
duardo Kenig is an Argentine-American mathematician and the Louis Block Di
stinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago’s Department of
Mathematics. His work in harmonic analysis and partial differential equat
ions is well recognised.\n\nKenig earned his PhD in 1978 from the Universi
ty of Chicago under the guidance of Alberto Calderón. He has worked at Pri
nceton University and the University of Minnesota since then\, until retur
ning to the University of Chicago in 1985. He has a strong background in e
lliptic and dispersive partial differential equations. Since 2014\, he has
been a member of the National Academy of Sciences. Zhongwei Shen\, Kin Mi
ng Hui\, Gigliola Staffilani\, and Panagiota Daskalopoulos are among his s
	tudents.\n\nAwards and honors\n-Salem Prize\, 1984\n-Invited speaker\, 198
